Waste Oil Heater

Just a little fun project I threw together to combat the cold winter we had down in Florida. This heater will heat my 450 sq ft garage from 45 degrees to 75 degrees in a matter of minutes! It came in handy for work I was doing on the Iroc. Go away cold weather!

I used an old tower case and a large AC muffin fan along with a propane bottle. Air is forced in through the dual 5.25″ drive bay. A gutted power supply was used as the combuster, which had a loop of copper tubing inside it. The tubing had holes drilled into it to release the propane. The power supply was mounted so that the forced air went around all sides to keep it from radiating heat to the case. After the combuster, the 3.5″ drive tray directs the flame to the rear opening on the case for the power supply. The burnt spot on the side of the case was from an earlier run where the flame escaped in front of the 3.5″ drive tray.

Disclaimer: this is one of the more dangerous projects I’ve posted. Don’t attempt this if you don’t know what you’re doing, and don’t blame me if you blow or burn yourself up!
